May 2009

Every year, we head over to Jon's dad's house to celebrate his birthday and Mother's Day, both of which are usually within a few days of each other. We always eat a lot of great food and have a fun time talking and laughing. I think one of the best parts is the little cousins get to play! Aren't they cute?

Also in May, this craziness happened:

Today we'd like to reflect on an old classic, "Sharpie Renditions."

Now, you may remember some years ago, our nephews Carter and Spencer-- their original Sharpie on White Wall featured in Salt Lake City really moved aunt Vanessa to tears. It made me cry, too (with laughter). :)

Dallin is still in his formative art stages, but I think you will agree that this piece, Sharpie on Old Cardboard, really speaks to the tortured inner child in all of us:

Next Dallin turned to a different canvas, in this piece named Sharpie on Colored Plastic. The lines follow the natural flow of the plastic design, but with its own air of creativity. Thus we see the though Dallin may appear on the surface to follow the rules of art, while in reality he is using it to guide us all through our over-structured lives:

Dallin's creativity continues as he turns to other mediums to display this Sharpie experience. His brother, Justin, now pulling himself up to stand on small items, is the perfect subject for Dallin's Sharpie on Baby Flesh trial. What emerged will no doubt be hailed as a masterpiece (since it's been days and we can't get rid of it completely quite yet).

Even Dallin knows that the Sharpie collection is pretty much complete with that piece. So while still in artist mode, he turned to the next best tool in my craft drawer, the red ink pad. Typically used for Dallin's stamping projects, instead he turned it into something art lovers far and wide will agree is moving, at times alarming, but all-in-all a timeless tribute to Dallin's love for color and display.

Featuring his newest (neither first nor last) self-portrait, I give you Dallin's...

Naughty Boy
Caught Red Handed
Isn't it magnificant? Truly, it captures the style, the grace, the ever-present mind of Dallin's artistic manifestations. I am speechless and in awe. And so is the red bath water.

Also Dallin is saying lots of funny things:

Dog Gots = Hot Dogs
Mark = Milk
At Ban = Bat Man
What ru doin' air = What are you doing there
Wear = Underwear
Seal money = The penny with a seal on it (we put it in a machine by the ocean)
Teedee = TV
