Día Cuatro

We left Guayaquil to drive to Banos, which is a city to the north on the way to Quito. It was about a five-hour trip. On the way, we drove through the Andes Mountains and saw how people lived in the remote areas.

We stopped at a roadside fruit stand and bought a pineapple. It smelled so good! Check out how big the papaya are on the left.

How wild bananas look right off the tree

It was pretty foggy looking down into the valley during part of the drive. The elevation change was so drastic, our ears popped constantly. At one point the change was so quick our faces became very flushed. Here is Carrie in front of some small banana plants.

A typical city with open markets and people everywhere. We got lost several times due to funny maps and not-so-trustworthy directions from locals.


A lot of the little cities had roundabouts with interesting shrines.

We reached Banos in the evening and the hostel worker recommended this restaurant. It was SOOOO good. By far the best place we ate on the whole trip.
