First we visited Pointe du Hoc, the location of a series of German bunkers and machine gun posts. On D-Day, the US Army Ranger Assault Group attacked and captured Pointe du Hoc after scaling the cliffs. It used to be nice level land, but from the pictures you see there are bomb craters all over.

Second we visited Omaha Beach, a landing area used by Allied forces on the D-Day invasion. Today, the beach is dotted with the remains of German bunkers. On the shore, the stainless-steel sculpture Les Braves commemorates American soldiers.

Third we visited the Normandy American Cemetery, which covers 172.5 acres and contains the graves of 9,387 American War Dead, most of whom died during the landings and ensuing operations.

Fourth we visited the Bayeux Tapestry, an embroidered cloth nearly 70 metres long and 50 centimetres tall that depicts the events leading up to the Norman Conquest of England in 1066. We were not allowed to take photos but I’ll include a Google pic.
