Idaho Potato Museum

The Idaho Potato Museum is a cute little place in Blackfoot, Idaho, halfway between Pocatello and Idaho Falls. It's definitely worth a visit if you're driving through. 

The kids were hungry. 

There is a cute little shop with funny potato-y things for sale. I bought a magnet.

 In the museum, you learn about where potatoes came from (South America) and how they got to everywhere else.

There is also a lot of local potato history, with lots of old machinery and photos. Here is a photo of my very own ancestor, Lewis Dunbar Wilson, who was the first to ship potatoes from the Blackfoot area. 

The kids really loved this museum, including this spot. They could see down into the "cellar" where a potato family talked and sang.

There was some really cool old potato stuff, like weighers and sorters. My mother-in-law loved the wall of potato mashers! Also there was a case of many kinds of potato peelers.

The kids' other favorite spot was the Potato Head Derby. So awesome! They made their own Potato Head cars and raced them.


We spent probably 20 minutes going through the museum. Then we spent another 20 minutes at the little cafe, eating soda and what else? French fries!
