Today we hopped in Casey's car and he drove us around Germany! It was so much fun.
Our first stop was Altena.
Here we are walking up a huge hill to see a castle. Lots of tiny doors on the way up.
Casey's daughter Mary came with us. She is a dream.

It felt like we had stepped back into the Middle Ages! I felt like some knights and ladies would just randomly walk by...

Here is the moat! Just kidding, it's a river down in the little town.
We walked around and saw the shops. Here is a yarn store. *Drooling.
We stopped at this Greek restaurant. This is lamb. YUUUUM oh and lest you think Americans have dibs on the french fry thing--we ate them at nearly every meal in Europe. I kid you not! Those people love their fries, and many eat them with mayo.
We left Altena and then drove to Aachen... we were driving and WHAM! This building came out of nowhere in the middle of Aachen.
I was so entranced by this building. It was one of my favorites of the whole trip. Full body sculptures sticking out everywhere. It felt so rich and medieval. I think this was a city building of some kind.
Next we went into the cathedral at Aachen. Beautiful!
It seemed so weird that people just live and walk around these incredibly old structures!

Next we drove some more and saw lots of cute little farms.
We crossed the border into The Netherlands! Our cousin on my mom's side lives in Maastricht.
After visiting with my cousin and her family, Casey, Jon, Mary and I walked around the town. Jon found a possible ancestor-- Johan Snijders Autos! :)
They aren't kidding around here.

So many European cities have "centers" which is SO COOL. A natural gathering spot and fun place to walk or ride a bike.
